fragile

Studio Kahn's Fragile series of ceramic necklaces, shakers and menorah are an interesting example of user engaged pieces. The necklaces must be snapped to be worn either to create beads or to allow the chain to exit from within.

Very similar idea to my Bush series, which have just been taken to the kiln for their first firing. I love the name "Let it Grow", embracing a similar philosophy of celebrating what you have and allowing it to just be.

test run

a few test pieces made from Keraflex, the porcelain sheeting, in both thicknesses of .5mm and 1mm. The former while proving to be translucent was much to thin to consider using. The thicker is sturdier while still retaining some of the translucency and also holds its shapes during firing. Doing these test pieces has been invaluable as it not only has given me an idea of what joining methods work but also that the pieces will need to be supported during firing to prevent slumping.
